Do you know why you’re doing what you’re doing?
Above all, there is motivation in everything we do, even if it is not consciously present. This motivation can have a greater or lesser impact on what we do depending on the interests of each person.
Motivation is only the reason, the reason why we do things, we can have the strength and energy necessary to carry out what we are doing, despite the fatigue, tiredness, or some difficulty that may come our way. They are basically the WHY’s of what we do.
Starting to manage my motivation
The problem for many people is that they don’t really know why they do things or they just don’t like why they do things. So the first thing you have to do to start managing your motivation is to ask yourself “why do I do what I do?”
Whether it’s in your personal or professional life, you have to be clear about why you do things. For example, a young student who is going to college should ask himself why he is going to college. If his answer were “because my parents want me to go to college,” “because that’s what everyone else is doing,” or “because I can get a job that way,” then we would have a very poor motivation that will not drive this young student to do his best either in college or as a professional.
This is much more common than it seems, we do things for the wrong reasons and without the necessary motivation. This leads directly to frustration without really knowing why.
What the young student should do is look for what he likes to do in life, evaluate his interests, find a career that gives him a vision of himself as a professional in that career, this way if he asks himself again why he is going to university, he will answer things like “because the career I am studying is exciting to me”, “because I want to make this career my life”, “because I want to help people in”.
“Ask yourself if what you’re doing today brings you closer to where you want to be tomorrow.”
Your motivation is in you
Asking yourself what your motivation is is something you can do whenever you want, you should not look for it anywhere else but in yourself. It is a great exercise that will help you know if you are living the life you want to live and not fall into an automatic state of doing things just because.
Discover your motivation, don’t let yourself do things for reasons that don’t encourage you, don’t settle!
So tell me, what is your motivation for doing what you do today?
